The first earth was created from a cloud of dust and gas, mainly hydrogen and helium. 4.6 billion years ago our earth was a proto-planet. Also, since it was in a molten state, the metals of earth sank to the core. The giant impact happened about 4.5 billion years ago. According to the theory, a mars sized proto- planet collided with earth, destroying the atmosphere it had. When the proto-planet collided with earth, particles flew off, which created our moon. This also is thought to be a reason why our earth is tilted.
